The position is to provide accurate advice to clients on farm management and agronomic practices, which will add value through the accurate recommendation of chemicals, fertiliser, and all other farm products. Actively promote agronomic practices within the region, a progressive farming region. Job Description
REPORTING TO THE MANAGER, THE AGRONOMIST WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR:
Sales and agronomy services to existing & new customers
Maintain existing customers and further developing customer base and maintaining a level of clients to remain profitable
Providing a highly professional and comprehensive agronomic service, through providing technical service in broadacre cropping applicable in 300 – 360mm rainfall area.
Working with clients on a fee for service basis
Ensure that client records are maintained accurately and ensure that clients are invoiced for services
Key Activities, Duties and Responsibilities:
Broad-acre cropping and plant nutrition in 300 – 360mm rainfall area, will be primary areas of focus.
Maintain a close relationship with the company’s key clients, assisting with farm management planning in advance of respective seasonal programs. Then to provide on-going advice throughout the season, including fertiliser & chemical applications, weed and pest identification and control programs.
Maintain a relationship with key suppliers, to ensure up to date information of product label changes and new product opportunities. Where appropriate, assist with trialing of potential new products.
Maintain a relationship with appropriate government personnel, such as PIRSA and Farming Groups, to gain an understanding of their local trial work and other industry influencing factors.
In conjunction with the WCT Rural team assist with setting budgets, providing forecasts and other business management as directed
Develop forecasts to predict adequate stock levels to meet seasonal demands
Assist in organising demonstration trials to introduce new products and techniques and raise the awareness of the company.
Be an active team member, including attending staff meetings, aimed at keeping the team informed of market conditions, supply and demand of products, seasonal or market changes.
Maintain accurate records of clients’ visits and advice
Working within a team environment, be involved in the skills development of the team, particularly in areas related to agronomy and plant nutrition.
Diligently assist with activities in the branch and promptly follow-up on client requests.
Report to the branch manager any activity that is seen on farm that could help influence sales to the property outside of the agronomy range of products, so that the sales team can follow up on any potential sales.
Implement a plan with all agronomy clients to make sure that the store captures all Chemical, Fertiliser and Crop Nutrition products for that customer.
Play an active role as a valued team member of WCT Rural team

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong interpersonal and sales abilities
Knowledge of the products, customers and local market
Previous experience in agronomy and knowledge of farming enterprises, dry land, wheat, barley, legumes. Plant diseases, crop rotation practices, Ag chemical & fertilizer recommendations and applications
Sound problem-solving skills
Sound administrative skills, computer skills, company computer programs and good analytical and reporting abilities
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Tertiary qualifications in Agronomy/Science based disciplines.
Minimum 2-5 years in field experience
