Agri Technician

We are seeking an Agri Technician for a full-time role. The Agri Technician will be responsible for providing technical support for the cropping activities and will be required to work closely with the Farm Managers/Owners and Agronomists to achieve optimal farming outcomes.

SugarlinkZ Pty Ltd is a family-owned Sugarcane Farming enterprise located in Brandon QLD in the Burdekin Shire.

Specific tasks and responsibilities:

• SoilAnalysisandPreparation:
• Conductsoilteststoassesssoilqualityandnutrientlevels.
• Determinetheneedforsoilamendmentsandmakerecommendations.
• Preparethesoilbyplowing,tilling,andaddingnecessaryamendmentstocreate an optimal planting environment.
• PlantingandCropEstablishment:
• Establishing crops including bed preparation, fertilising, sowing and cultivation
• Coordinateandoverseetheplantingofsugarcanecrops,ensuringproper spacing and depth.
• Ensuretimelyplantingaccordingtothefarm'sschedule.
• Monitorseedqualityandmakerecommendationsforseedtreatmentsifneeded.
• IrrigationManagement:
• Irrigation of crops, monitoring and maintaining irrigation system, including pump operation, scheduling waterings
• Troubleshoot and repair irrigation equipment as necessary.
• Crop Maintenance:
• Monitor crop health and identify pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
• Implement pest and disease control strategies, including the application of pesticides or integrated pest management techniques.
• Apply fertilizers and nutrients as needed to support crop growth.
• Ensure proper weed control through various methods, such as herbicide application or manual removal.
• Operating tractors and other farm equipment relevant to the everyday running of a sugarcane farm
• Harvest Planning and Execution:
• Collaborate with farm management to plan the timing and logistics of the sugar cane harvest.
• Oversee the harvesting process, ensuring that it is carried out efficiently and with minimal losses.
• Equipment and Machinery Maintenance:
• General farm and property maintenance and involvement in any on-farm improvements.
• Maintainandrepairfarmequipment,includingtractors,harvesters,andirrigation systems.
• Conductroutineinspectionstopreventequipmentbreakdownsandensure safety.
• DataCollectionandRecordKeeping:
• Maintainaccuraterecordsofplanting,irrigation,pestcontrol,andfertilizationactivities.
• Collectdataoncropyields,soilconditions,andotherrelevantmetricstoassess and improve farm performance.
• ComplianceandSafety:
• Adheretosafetyprotocolsandregulationstoensurethewell-beingoffarm workers and compliance with environmental laws.
• Stayinformedaboutthelatestagriculturalpractices,technologies,and regulations relevant to sugar cane farming.

Experiencerequirements:

-     Atleast3yearsof experience

Remuneration Information

Rate of Pay: $74,000 + super annuallyHours of Work: 38 hours per week plus additional reasonable hours per National Employment Standards Reports to: Farm Manager / Director
